Basic Knowledge of Hydraulic System

Components:

A hydraulic drive system consists of 3 parts:

1. generator (hydraulic pump), driven by system an electric motor, a combustion engine or a windmill;

2. Valves, filters, piping etc (to guide or control the system);

3. Actuator (a hydraulic motor or cylinder) to drive the machinery.

Working principle of hydraulic system:

A hydraulic system is a drive or transmission system that uses pressurized hydraulic fluid to power hydraulic machinery.

When hydraulic transmission system works, oil bump transfers mechanical energy of motor to pressure energy of oil, then oil is transmitted to hydraulic cylinder, through hydraulic cylinder (or hydraulic motor), transfers pressure energy to mechanical energy of movable parts.

Hydraulic transmission system should meet force and speed demands of driven parts.

Hydraulic pressure is regulated through overflow valve.

Hydraulic flow direction is controlled by hydraulic control valve.

Installation and Inspection of CNC Machine

1) Hydraulic system installation and inspection:

--Clean all components before installation of hydraulic components.

--In time of installation, avoid hydraulic system breakdown because of foreign matter.

--Inlet and outlet pipe of oil pump, bump, cylinder, valves should all be installed correctly.

--After connection of all hydraulic system pipes, make sure all are fixed well and avoid dog leg.

--Make sure entire system is clean and hydraulic oil is filtered before adding oil. Mixture usage of new and used oil is restricted, because in used oil consist solid particles, water, colloid etc.

--In time of inspection, make sure pump, cylinder, valves work normally, oil pressure, oil temperature and oil level are controlled in range of normal values.

2) Pneumatic system installation and inspection:

--Clean all components and seal test is also necessary before installation.

--Flow direction should be in correspondence with direction on valves.

--Dynamic seal ring, especially U seal ring shouldn’t be installed tightly to avoid increase of resistance.

--Movable cylinder center line should align with loading center line. Otherwise, lateral force will accelerate seal ring abrasion and piston rod bending.

--System pressure should be adjusted properly, usually 0.6Mpa.

Ball Screw Installation in CNC Machine

Brief view:

Ball screw is a mechanical linear actuator that translates rotational motion to linear motion with little friction. Able to apply or withstand high thrust loads, can do with minimum internal friction. They are made to close tolerances and are therefore suitable for use in situations in which high precision is necessary.

Applications:

Used in machine tools, robots and precision assembly equipment, high precision ball screws are used in steppers for semiconductor manufacturing.

Operations:

1) Ball screws can operate with some preload, effectively eliminating slop between input (rotation) and output (linear motion), this feature is vital when used in CNC machine tools and high precision motion applications.

2) Keep ball screw in effective stroke, avoid nut out of ball screw shaft.

3) Ball screw axis should be parallel to supporting guide rail axis. Center of bearing seat on two ends and center of nut seat should be in a line of 3 points.

4) In CNC machine installation and commissioning should pay attention to: spindle bearing installation, linear rolling guide installation, hydraulic system, pneumatic and CNC system installation etc.

5) Lack of sliding friction between nut and screw pends itself to extend lifespan of screw assembly reducing downtime for maintenance and parts replacement, while also decreasing demand for lubrication.
